About Us
The History of Origins
Our Story
It all started with a desire to reach the lost. How do we help reach the billions of people who have never heard of the name Jesus? As we traveled through different nations the trend we began to realize was that amidst all the different cultures, languages and religions, there was one thing that drew people together: Sports.
Eighty percent of the world participates in sports at some level– fans, players, coaches, etc. All throughout history we have seen that be the case. Interestingly enough basketball was actually created for that exact reason: as a way to reach people with the Gospel. James Naismth, the inventor of the game of basketball, wanted to create a game that would see young men discipled in their spirit, body and soul. From there, the game of basketball was first spread around the globe by pastors and missionaries.
So Origins Basketball was started to continue this legacy. Our vision is to bring basketball back to its roots. Seeing athletes, coaches and trainers “get rooted in God, grow in their craft and impact the world through basketball”. Through a unique partnership with professional coaches and trainers, Origins Basketball provides life-changing spiritual growth alongside world-class basketball training.
Though basketball has spread like wildfire, it has lost its roots. It has become about fame, money, pride and what I can get. But there is a shift coming. God is stirring up a generation that will seek to find their identity outside of the game, and to find it in Him.
